Types of Latex Mattresses
Natural latex mattresses are very popular due to the outstanding properties of latex which “recognizes” and adjusts to the body shape and pressure. In addition to proving an excellent back support and a high level of comfort, natural latex is also resistant to mould, dust mites and bacteria, while many people also like it due to the fact that it breathes. But not all latex and even natural latex mattresses are the same.
You can choose between “latex mattresses” and “natural latex mattresses”, then you can choose between Talalay and Dunlop latex and in the end, there are mattresses which are made from a mixture of both natural and synthetic latex. But even if you choose 100% natural latex mattress, you may not be getting what you think you are getting. In order to make the best possible choice and receive the best value for your money, it is crucial to know the differences between different types of latex mattresses and things to pay attention to when buying a latex mattress.
Firstly, it is crucial to distinguish between natural and synthetic latex mattresses which, however, may not be as easy as it seems at a first glance. Since you get the advantages of natural latex mattresses only if it is truly made from natural latex, you should look exclusively for mattresses that are advertised as “natural latex”. Why is this important? It may be true that everyone are after the unique qualities of natural latex but unfortunately, many people are not aware that there is a huge difference between latex mattresses and natural latex mattresses. As a result, most retailers do not emphasise that they are selling mattresses made from synthetic latex and simply label them as “latex mattresses”. So once again, if you are interested in the benefits of natural latex mattresses, look exclusively for those that are labelled as “natural latex mattresses”.

Just because a mattress is labelled as “natural latex mattress” that does not necessarily mean that is natural latex mattress in the true meaning of the word. Due to huge popularity of natural latex mattresses, some manufacturers combine 100% natural latex with other materials. This allows them to advertise their products as “natural latex mattresses” although in reality, they do not have a lot in common with all natural latex mattresses and may contain a number of synthetic materials including the potentially toxic ones.
When it comes to Talalay and Dunlop latex mattresses, the choice is a matter of personal preferences. Both are made from 100% natural latex and offer all the advantages of natural latex mattresses. The only thing you should remember about Talalay and Dunlop latex mattresses is that the latter is more firm than the first although it is also important to keep in mind that there are several levels of firmness. But if you are choosing between a Talalay and Dunlop latex mattress of the same firmness level, remember that the one made from Talalay latex will always be softer.
