Organic vs Natural Latex Mattresses
In addition to natural latex mattresses, it is also possible to find organic latex mattresses. However, there is no such thing as organic latex but only natural and synthetic latex. So why do some manufacturers advertise their latex mattresses as organic? Some companies decide for the term organic rather than natural to emphasise that their mattresses are made from natural rather than synthetic latex, while the others use the term to emphasise that their mattresses contain no synthetic materials. However, it can also be a marketing trick.
As already mentioned earlier, it is possible to find mattresses which are made from both natural and synthetic latex. The latter is very similar to natural latex which is harvested from the rubber tree, however, its properties cannot compare to that of natural latex and there is a major difference if you sleep on a mattress that is made from natural latex or a mattress that made from synthetic latex. This also clearly reveals the fact that synthetic latex mattresses are never advertised as “synthetic” but simply as “latex mattresses”. But to make confusion even greater, it is also possible to find natural latex mattresses which are not really natural.
Since just about everyone who are looking for natural latex mattresses compare the offer between different companies, many mattress manufacturers advertise their mattresses as “natural latex” despite the fact that they are not really natural latex mattresses. In order to be able to advertise their products as natural latex, they avoid synthetic latex but they do not avoid the use of other synthetic materials which enable them to reduce the production costs. As a result, you might be getting a mattress half of which is made from natural latex, while the other half may be made from synthetic materials. Unfortunately, there is just no way to be sure what you are buying unless you demand a detailed list of materials from which the mattress is made or buy a mattress from a reputable company.

Considering that organic latex does not exist, you are highly recommended not to fall for the label “organic latex mattress”. You will not get organic but “only” natural latex and perhaps also synthetic materials. Some companies that offer organic latex mattresses decide to use the term “organic” to make a clear distinction of their products from synthetic latex mattresses and emphasise the use of exclusively natural materials. But there are also companies that simply avoid synthetic latex as mentioned above. However, even mattresses which are made exclusively from natural latex and organic materials such as organic cotton and wool are not necessarily a good choice. They are without a doubt better than those containing synthetic materials but if you want a real natural latex mattress, you also need to pay attention to the amount of latex the mattress actually contains.
In order to make sure that you are really getting a natural latex mattress at the best price possible, you should first make a selection of reputable natural latex mattress brands and only then compare the prices.
