How to Distinguish between Natural and Synthetic Latex Mattresses

Since you can benefit from sleeping on a latex mattress only if it is made from natural latex, it is crucial to learn to distinguish between mattresses which are made from natural latex and mattresses containing synthetic latex. Unfortunately, it is not enough to focus on mattresses labelled as “natural latex”. They are of course a better choice than mattresses without the word “natural” because all “latex mattresses” are made from synthetic rather than natural latex. However, there is no guarantee that you are buying truly natural latex mattress just because the label (or salesman) says so.

Natural latex is more expensive than man-made latex, however, it is incomparably more comfortable and healthy to sleep on as well as exceptionally durable. But despite that just about everyone would like to get a natural latex mattress at the lowest price possible. And this is exactly what some companies are taking advantage of. They attract buyers by highly competitive prices which, however, require reduced costs of production. This is most often achieved by combining natural latex with other materials. These mattresses may not contain synthetic latex, however, this does not necessarily mean that they do not contain any synthetic materials. As a result, it is possible to find natural latex mattresses which are made from natural latex but do not come even close to quality of true natural latex mattresses.

You can find many tips on how to distinguish a natural from synthetic latex mattress online, however, it is very difficult to tell which natural latex mattress provides exactly what it promises if you are not a professional. If you want to buy a quality natural latex mattress, you are highly recommended to buy a mattress from a reputable brand. But do not simply rely on the reputation of the brand. Before you buy a natural latex mattress, ask the company to tell you exactly what is inside the mattress and how much of it actually consists of natural latex as it is also possible to find latex mattresses which do not contain any synthetic materials but contain little latex.

In the end, it is also highly important to distinguish between Talalay and Dunlop latex mattresses. Both are 100% natural and offer all the advantages of a natural latex mattress. The key difference between Talalay and Dunlop latex is in the firmness of the mattress. Neither of both types of natural latex mattresses is superior over the other although companies that use Talalay or Dunlop latex will probably try to convince you otherwise. Which one to choose is completely up to your personal preferences and how soft/firm you want your mattress to be. If you feel more comfortable sleeping on a firm mattress, you should choose a Dunlop latex mattress but if you prefer soft mattresses, you will sleep better on a mattress made from Talalay latex which is softer in comparison to Dunlop latex.
